野荘 刂 yasou ritto

Opened in Jozankei, Hokkaido.
Yasou Ritto

down

Innocence, untainted.
Luxury.

Deep in the forest, with the murmuring of the stream...
Come into view together
A house designed by architect Yoshiyuki Tange
「野荘 刂(yasou ritto)」

With the scent of trees and grass
Walking with the warmth of the earth beneath your feet.
Like fallen snow melting away
Gazing at the rising steam, sipping tea.
A bird preening its feathers
Painting on a canvas from the edge of the veranda.

Aboard a ship in days gone by
Surrounded by the view that once held me in a trance
Awakening the sensation of sleep...
Resonate with the senses

Beyond the memories carried by the wind
In a sanctuary of peace
A day adrift, guided only by the heart.

History

Remembering...
Jozankei.

n the late Edo period, the Shugendo monk Bizen Jozan (formerly written as “Jozan”) was guided by the Ainu people into the depths of the forest, where he arrived at a valley of bubbling hot springs.
“I want to make this a place for people to heal.”
From that wish, the story of this place began.

Former Ōba Residence – Villa

he Ōba family, who prospered alongside the development of Hokkaido, had been engaged in forestry and woodworking since the Meiji era. Once operating a hot spring facility in Jozankei, they owned vast stretches of land in the area. About 60 years ago, Suekichi Ōba—who led the family's success—was captivated by this scenic corner plot, where the river winds gracefully through nature. It was here that he built a villa, drawn by the land's serene beauty.

刂

川が刻んだ風景、「刂」(りっとう)という名に。 川が刻んだ風景、「刂」(りっとう)という名に。

It is the radical that represents the kanji for “knife” (刀).
Stripping away the unnecessary
A mark that highlights only the essence.

Here, nothing is added, nothing adorned.
A place to return to as you are.

Mountain ridgelines. Flowing rivers.
The lines nature draws gently unravel the heart.

The beauty of simplicity and subtraction...
Experience the luxury of purity, once again.
